Knowing what to look for in grinders and understanding the difference it can make to your home coffee setup is key.
Coffee Grinders
Which coffee grinder is best?
“Coffee grinders usually fall into one of a few different categories defined by the type of process used to break up the coffee beans – typically either a spinning blade, a conical burr, or a flat burr. But selecting a grinder isn’t always a simple choice.”

Grinding is all about finding the right particle size for the extraction and different grinders will produce different sizes.
In general, particle size is finer for espresso because it’s extracted under pressure and in a short amount of time. In contrast, you should grind coarser for drip filter, as the coffee is in contact with the water for longer. Larger grinders can grind coffee much more quickly, but often take up a lot of space and can’t be moved easily.
This video will help you understand the differences between each type of coffee grinder, and look at the mechanics and how it affects the flavours in your coffee at home.
